Sobrato House

ABA designed the first multi-service center combining emergency shelter and transitional housing services for at-risk youth. Working with the Emergency Housing Consortium, ABA facilitated an extensive public design process to ensure challenging operational needs were met and concerns of the future neighbors addressed. Operational planning and programming services laid the groundwork for a successful partnership between non-profit organizations EHC and City Year, and San José’s Redevelopment Agency. Each year, more than 500 youth receive help from this innovative facility whose design adds both character and ambience to the existing historical residential core, while also addressing the affordable housing need in Silicon Valley.
