National Library Week: The El Gabilan Library

ABA Culture

We continue to celebrate National Library Week with a spotlight on the El Gabilan Library in the City of Salinas, California. The El Gabilan Library, which opened its doors in February 2020, is a testament to the power of community-driven design and the value of listening to diverse voices. ABA's work began with a comprehensive Needs Assessment incorporating extensive community outreach and participation. We then proceeded with a design that features playful and colorful interiors with spaces dedicated to children, teens, and adults; makerspace; and a variety of welcoming outdoor spaces, including an interactive-learning children’s garden. These spaces not only enhance the library experience but also serve to emphasize the library as a place for community connections.
