Congratulations to Ashly Vineyard, NCIDQ, WELL AP, and the talented team for their inspiring fusion of architecture and fashion! For Haworth’s 5V Fashion Show, Ashly transformed her design for the Monterey Peninsula College Welcome Center’s architectural story into a stunning fashion statement.
Welcome on the Runway
The vision for this project was turning the guiding architectural + design principles of the Monterey Peninsula College Welcome Center into a Vogue piece of fashion. The linear elements of the dress juxtaposed against the linear wood slats of the Pergola reflects the intersecting grids on campus. The building took its shape from the two colliding grids, connecting the previously unconnected. The main portion of the dress is made from the carpet tiles that will be used within the building itself, truly bringing the building to the runway. The train of the dress reflects a two story wall graphic at the heart of the building that connects the first floor to the second in a welcoming display of greetings in over 30 languages. Displaying a portion of these many languages, the train is an homage to the welcoming nature of the building and the campus. A place where students and faculty alike have a place to come together and not feel so alone in such a vast world.
