1st woman named FAIA in Santa Clara County since College of Fellows founding

Anderson Brulé Architects News

Pamela Anderson-Brulé, FAIA, first woman in Santa Clara County to be elevated to the College of Fellows in the American Institute of Architects, the highest rank in the institute's membership.

The College of Fellows was first created in 1889 by the American Institute of Architects and was officially formalized in 1952. This honor is designed to "elevate those architects who have made a significant contribution to architecture and society and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession." In the most recent AIA Survey completed in 2012, women represented 17% of the 85,000 AIA members, and less than 4% of all members hold this FAIA distinction. Ms. Pamela Anderson-Brulé, FAIA was elected by the Jury of Fellows for her notable contributions and advancement of the science and art of planning and building by advancing the standards of the architectural practice. Pamela represents one of the few Small Women-Owned Businesses in Silicon Valley and became the 1st woman in County of Santa Clara to be honored with this distinction.

Pamela believes that for a building design to be truly successful, it is the architect’s responsibility to fully understand, engage, and enhance the client’s entire operations from a human, social, economic, and environmental perspective. She terms this “Strategic Process Design,” which begins by creating a comprehensive dialogue of needs, expectations, and models of the client’s vision, services, and operations with all of the client’s stakeholders: administrators, political leaders, community members, employees, and those who will use the services within the building. Pamela’s Strategic Process Design was nationally recognized for the groundbreaking new service and operational models developed for the San José Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, a first of its kind joint-use library for not only the San José State University and City of San José but the United States. Today, Pamela continues to transform people, place, and practice through her innovative Strategic Process Design within the Community, Educational, and Health & Wellness Market.

By modeling strong leadership, Pamela influences other design professionals – inside and outside of her own practice—to innovate their role as leaders in the ever-changing Architectural industry.

The 2015 College of Fellows will be honored with a ceremony at the 2015 National AIA Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. For more information please visit:
