Anderson Brulé Architects, Inc. (ABA) is seeking a Job Captain/Mid-level Interior Designer with an interest in Healthcare and Educational Markets for our Downtown San Jose, CA office.

A good candidate will demonstrate experience in most phases of architectural practice; conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documents, furniture selection, bid documents, and construction administration. Candidates are to demonstrate an understanding of the process to evaluate, select, present, document designs developed by themselves and the team.

The best candidates will be proactive and will work well in a team, taking pride in the teams’ collective accomplishments.

Candidates will work closely with project leads to define design direction. Once the design direction is confirmed by the project lead, the candidate will be a key member in executing the design with limited supervision.

Candidates Job responsibilities will include:

  • Working with Senior Designer/Project Architect to develop and implement design concepts.
  • Site verification.
  • Model existing conditions and proposed designs in Autodesk Revit.
  • Coordinate with design team consultants.
  • Coordinate with client representatives.
  • Develop space plan / test fit options.
  • Develop and work from a program document.
  • Develop initiation and refine selection/layout/configuration of FF&E.
  • Balance working on multiple projects. (Candidate can expect to work on 2 – 3 different projects, as part of different teams during any given week)
  • Create a presentation which demonstrates proposed design concepts to the client using Adobe InDesign.
  • Create technically sound and accurate Construction Documents using Autodesk Revit in collaboration with project team.
  • Cartoon/sketch a set of drawings and/or presentations for review by project team prior to implementation.
  • Research, design and document relevant building codes and standards.
  • Contribute to sustainable dialogues and design development.
  • Communicate in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office including Outlook for calendaring and email communication on a daily basis.
  • Occasional travel to and from local jobsites.

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field
  • Approximately 4 years of work experience as a commercial interior designer.
  • Demonstrated ability to work 40 hours a week.

The following experience(s) will be considered a plus and are desired:

  • NCIDQ Certification
  • LEED Accreditation
  • DSA experience
  • OSPD experience
  • Proven ability to generate renderings from a Revit model.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate design presentation at various levels of design completion. Examples of such presentations may be conceptual, space plan, schematic design and design development presentations
  • Recent Experience in Commercial Tenant Improvement projects and leading interiors focused work.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Revit and Microsoft Office.
