We are very excited by the opportunity work with the Aptos community to create a new library that will not only be larger than the original with an exciting mix of updated spaces for print and digital collections, the library will offer a mix of community spaces, reading areas, a gallery, and features developed in partnership with the Aptos History Museum.

The Mercury News recently named San Jose’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library as one of the 10 most beautiful libraries in the Bay Area.

As the project’s associate architect, ABA led many of the project’s planning and design phases. It was developed as a first-of-its-kind joint-use library for both the City of San Jose and San Jose State University, and it serves as a model of seamless library services between the entities. And, as you will read, it boasts unique special collections of materials from Beethoven and John Steinbeck, and is home to the famed California History Room.

The Academic Core was designed in partnership between Anderson Brulé Architects, Associate Architect, and prime architect Cannon Design, and includes three new buildings designed to transform the student experience: a science center, a music and visual arts center, and a learning commons housing study rooms and a library.

The Academic Core contributes to the college’s vision of being known throughout California for its inclusiveness, innovation and exceptional student success, and will help better prepare local students to seize the region’s in-demand job.
